On May 15th Reuters reported that Tesla's "Million Miles" new battery was built in partnership with CATL and will be launched in China first. The partnership is expected to be announced on Tesla's Battery Day.
Earlier reports suggested that Tesla had invented a new electrode technology, the monocrystalline nickel-cobalt aluminum electrode, that would allow electric vehicles to have a full life range of 1 million miles (1.6 million kilometers) and reduce battery costs below $100/KWh, making Tesla's electric cars cheaper than fuel vehicles.
The electrode technology can't be separated from the work of Canadian battery specialist Jeff Dane and Maxwell, which Tesla acquired. The new process they invented could produce nickel-cobalt-manganese tromanganese (NMC) electrodes and new electrolytes, giving the battery a cycle life of more than 4,000 charge and discharge, make Tesla's battery cycle life rise to more than three times right now.
